*Estonian guitarist and singer Jonas Kaarnamets excites with his second EP under his artist’s name jonas.f.k. ‘*[*TLL.02*](https://open.spotify.com/album/6NnQHmNqj92iWCODQx4z5l?si=u0pqOKu9QO6rt1ks%5FOhw7w&ref=therunningkick.eu)*’ is a heady blend of electro sounds, feel-good pop, and thrilling sex appeal.*

In his homeland Estonia, guitarist and singer Jonas Kaarnamets is well-known as the founding member of Estonian alternative rock band Frankie Animal, but he can also rock’n’roll on his own. His solo project as well as alter ego jonas.f.k was born in 2020, the same year he debuted his first EP ‘buda.01’, which was entirely written in Budapest. For his second EP ‘TLL.02’ however, he returns to his homeland of Estonia. TLL is the airport code of Tallinn Airport, hence the name.

‘[TLL.02](https://open.spotify.com/album/6NnQHmNqj92iWCODQx4z5l?si=u0pqOKu9QO6rt1ks%5FOhw7w&ref=therunningkick.eu)’ is a fusion of electro sounds and feel-good pop, spiced up with subtle sexual energy. It is reminiscent of pop music from the late 1990s and early 2000s but also offers modern soul and indietronica sounds, and places jonas.f.k somewhere between Jamiroquai and Primal Scream. The whole set is a great balance between simple compositions and more experimental forms.

While his first album was strongly inward-looking and calm, ‘TLL.02’ is very outward-looking and ecstatic.

The five-track album starts with ‘[(They’re Calling Us) Loco](https://open.spotify.com/track/0C4NIqS2CjcQggrBWAr4eD?si=645f0157d46348ef&ref=therunningkick.eu)’, simultaneously, the first release from the album. With its fiery drums, a deep bass dancing around the hovering, groovy synth layers, it brings you straight into a dancing mood. Nightlife lovers will have this one on replay. It’s a feel-good, encouraging bold self-expression, inviting you to be yourself despite any naysayers. “*It’s just how I feel / but they’re calling us loco.*” It feels like an ode to the last warm summer night, feeling the lightness of being, dancing in the moonlight, all while deeply sinking into the tangles of life.

‘(They’re Calling Us) Loco’ offers not only pleasure for your ears, but also a great music video for the song was directed by Estonian animator Jaan Sinka and videographer Kristjan Taal. It features different well-known characters from the Estonian scene such as drag queen Vilita, model and trendsetter Sebastian Freiberg, electro-pop artist Florian Wahl and more. The message is simple: Let people be themselves because everyone is unique.

‘[Bye-Bye](https://open.spotify.com/track/0mmIj1ibSuzuhqJTkDZdya?si=3b585ef5f8e540b9&ref=therunningkick.eu)’ comes with this ‘break the rules’ attitude that jonas.f.k embodies oh so well. Laid-back sound, nice percussion, and a groovy bass make it a great dance song that certainly won’t make you say ‘bye-bye’. The highlight is the trumpet at the end, which adds some more spice to the song, reminiscent of groovy songs of eras gone by.

The instrumental piece of the album, ‘[SAND](https://open.spotify.com/track/4j3nIdIXvsYuA0hsrlSOTB?si=bed86d08ac914640&ref=therunningkick.eu)’ makes you want to sip on that coconut cocktail in the tropics or the local beach in Tallinn, whatever works. For this track, Kaarnamets cleverly landed vocal support from singer Kitty Florentine, both harmonise so wonderfully. Furthermore, this harmonic blend of voices adds complexity to the synths and layers, creating a fantastic instrumental composition. No lyrics are needed. The music tells the story all by itself. Performed live, this song is an absolute banger.

Speaking of tropical feelings, what about some beach vibes? ‘[Californ-i-a](https://open.spotify.com/track/43bNUqfBWOidRB0MayB4Ti?si=0ef87677dd0b4e50&ref=therunningkick.eu)’ takes you straight to the sandy coastline of Santa Monica and creates a dreamy summer feeling while at the same time having this tremendous sexual appeal. Calm verses that build up with complex layers in the chorus create the bittersweet taste of a forbidden romance reflected in the lyrics: “*I burn myself with the flame / Just to be around you / Let me surround you.*” The guitar here is terrific and reflects the deepness of longing. Kaarnamets proves once again what a fantastic guitar player he is. Close your eyes and dive into the ocean of hidden dreams.

A bit simpler than ‘Californ-i-a’, but no less sexually energised is ‘[Your Window](https://open.spotify.com/track/3TBu8q7MEM0v2nDZ915HP0?si=ab0c3d4fc0a9470c&ref=therunningkick.eu)’. It comes with energetic drums, happy synths, bouncy beats, and a soulful female choir. The song paints the romantic image of the secret lover sneaking through the window at night. Here the singing troubadour appears in the form of a modern Estonian Dorian Gray. It is an open invitation to enjoy love and life and lust, thus making it a great closer for the EP.

With ‘TLL.02’, Kaarnamets exploits his full potential. He has personally and musically matured, and lets his exotic character and alter ego jonas.f.k roar with confidence.

‘TLL.02’ is a sonic voyage of discovery and layered complexity. It is full of little sound details that reveal themselves during each further listen. jonas.f.k is pushing boundaries in music and in society as a whole. The way he moves on stage and how he presents his alter ego is a mix of masculine and feminine attributes, slightly sexualised and seemingly erotic. While it may still be a bit exotic for his homeland of Estonia, this boldness makes him attractive for the world stage. With his beguiling sex appeal and open being, his talent, and charisma, jonas.f.k has come to stay. He is the tomorrow of the Estonian music landscape (and beyond) already arriving a day early.
